BOY Entry Requirements and Check List
Entry Rules:
- Any building designed and erected in a safe manner by an NFBA member builder that utilizes post-frame construction (defined below) in a minimum of 50% of the building structure will be eligible.
Definition: A post-frame building is most clearly defined by its wide column spacing with rafters and/or trusses to create distinct “post-frames.” Columns may or may not be ground-embedded. Mortise and tendon connections typical of timber frame construction are not considered post-frame by this definition.
- Buildings must have been completed during the current year (2010), and have an erector/contractor who has been an NFBA member builder at least 6 months prior to the contest. Any entry found to have been completed prior to January 1, 2010 will forfeit all materials, including the entry fee, submitted to NFBA in the application process.
- It is the obligation of the applicant to check the appropriate box on the entry form to indicate which specific category the building(s) is being entered into.
- Completed entries must be submitted devoid of any staples, presentation folders, or three ring binders.
- To be considered you must complete EACH item on the "Official Entry Form".
- Entries received that do not contain all required materials will be disqualified.
- Any NFBA company or branch is eligible to win, but is limited to one 1st place award per company branch in any or all outlined categories.
- All decisions by the judges are final.
Entry Fee:
- A $75.00 entry fee is required for each entry. A separate entry form must be completed for each entry submitted. The entry fee is non-refundable and must be in the form of a check.
Entry Deadline:
- All entries must be received at the NFBA office on, or before December 3, 2010.
- Paper Entries can be mailed to:

- Additional photos of any size showing stages of construction and interior views in addition to at least two views of the completed building are also necessary.
- Entries submitted without required photographic support and/or poor photographic prints are highly unlikely to win the contest.
- Remodel/Retrofit category entries must submit before and after photos.
- The photographer and anyone who provides a quote MUST sign a photo release and testimonial waiver that gives NFBA the right to reprint photos or the quotation.
- Each entry should include a floor plan and cross section of the building. Do not send full blueprints; a single-page line drawing equal to or less than 17” x 22” in size is acceptable.
- A letter from the building owner regarding the building project must be included with your entry submission.
