March 25, 2019
Dear NFBA Member and Post-Frame Industry Professional:
The Board of Directors of the National Frame Building Association (NFBA) was informed on March 11, 2019, that F+W Media (F+W) filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware on March 10, 2019. F+W is the publisher of Frame Building News (the former official publication of NFBA) and Rural Builder magazines and NFBA’s former sales agent for the Frame Building Expo exhibit booth sales.
As a result of this action by F+W, NFBA is at risk of not receiving some or all of the monies that F+W collected as an agent for the NFBA, as well as income owed to NFBA for magazine content development and licensing agreements.
The NFBA Board of Directors is working closely with its management company (Association Management Center) and its General Counsel on this matter. Further, we have retained a bankruptcy attorney in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, on a limited basis, to represent NFBA with respect to F+W’s bankruptcy.
Fortunately, NFBA has the financial strength and reserves to continue all operations and activities. The association has carefully managed its financial resources in recent years in order to build a reserve fund for protecting against an unplanned event such as this. NFBA will, as always, remain the single most effective representative of your interests as a builder, supplier, design professional, academic, or manufacturer of tools, materials, or machines that are used in our trade. NFBA’s plans for the development of its own trade publication and communication resource are in motion. Planning for the 2020 Frame Building Expo in Des Moines, Iowa, is also well underway. We expect it to be one of the best shows ever. NFBA’s commitment to education, safety, innovation, and service to you the member will continue to be our focus.
We have received questions about NFBA’s role in the development of a new trade show serving segments of the post-frame industry. Be assured that the annual Frame Building Expo is the only industry show sponsored, endorsed, and promoted by NFBA. NFBA has no affiliation with, and has not supported or endorsed the development of, any additional trade show, including a trade show to be held in December 2019 specifically for those working in steel roll-forming.
Be confident and proud in your support of NFBA—the exclusive voice and strongest advocate for the post-frame industry. NFBA will continue to thrive, given your participation, financial support, skill, and determination to expand our industry. Thank you for your continued support, membership, and confidence in your association’s Board of Directors. We are most appreciative.
Chair, NFBA Board of Directors
