Habitat for Humanity - Carter House Build
Built By:
Borkholder Buildings & Supply
South Bend, IN
Building use, importance, and newsworthiness:

these homes will be "sold" to approved Habitat families who have completed their qualification program. This group of homes is extremely significant since a Net-Zero home is essentially adding typical monthly utilities as added income. Being able to build at comparable cost and arrive at Net-Zero redefines the term "affordable living" to the market.

Unique features:

New Energy brand of homes by Borkholder is achieving dramatic reduction in energy and is getting incorporated into organizations such as Habitat who sees this as a new avenue to assist homeowners on what was not possible before.

Post-frame advantage:

Building radically different than the market is used to is what convinced Habitat of St Joseph County to be bold and incorporate this into the 2018 Carter build with Habitat and show the National directors that there is something different and better.

Cost per Sq. Ft.:

Duration to complete:

5 months (approximately) (Habitat also used volunteer labor)
