Fun Farm and Pumpkin Patch
Built By:

Building use, importance, and newsworthiness: The building serves as a center piece for the customer's Agri-Tourism farm which attracts 70,000 visitors during a 6 week fall operating season. The project is noteworthy because of the customers desire to honor their agricultural heritage while providing family themed entertainment. One wing of the structure serves as a retail store and has a kitchen producing fudge, candies, fritters and cotton candy. The main wing serves as a check out area and gathering place during the operations and as an event venue in the off season.

Unique features: The tee in gambrel roof line sets this building apart. With a ridge height of 32'next to a reconstructed 20' diameter x 56' tall silo it's scale is truly impressive. The structure features numerous embellishments including 9 backlit gable out dormers, 6x6 rough sawn cedar corbels and Y-braces, 6 "glass look" cupolas with led lighting, 3 ply laminated cross bracing with bolted plate steel gussets, in-floor radiant heat system, dry sprinkler system, point of purchase and data links, ADA compliance and it's topped off with a jumbo size pure copper weathervane.

Post-frame advantage: The customer wanted an old time dairy barn and brought turn of the century drawings to our first meeting. To replicate those framing methods with modern codes compliance plus the costs associated with timber framing proved to be a challenge. Post framing methods with factory built roof trusses and columns offered the perfect design and budget solution.
